To satisfy diners of all ages, Friendly’s rolls out a diverse selection of new menu items

WILBRAHAM, MA (January 13, 2013) To kick off the New Year, Friendly’s Ice Cream, LLC., today announced the launch of new breakfast, lunch & dinner, kids and ice cream menus, which will be available in all Friendly’s restaurants this week. The 78-year-old restaurant and ice cream company, which is known for its family-friendly, value-driven dining, has rolled out a diverse selection of fresh offerings for diners to enjoy. New additions include creative takes on classic dishes as well as an array of healthy meal options. Friendly’s has credibility in serving all of the new items and is excited to share the menus with its diners.

To start the morning off right, Friendly’s new breakfast menu will still offer favorites like the Big-Two-Do® and LumberJack Breakfast, but also delight diners with many new choices. Satisfying those with a sweet tooth are Bananas Foster Pancakes, featuring a hearty stack of fluffy pancakes topped off with sliced bananas and smothered in brown sugar caramel sauce; Brioche French Toast, which includes three slices of thick-sliced buttery Brioche bread, batter-dipped then grilled to golden brown and served with whipped cream; and Red Velvet Waffles, topped with strawberries and whipped cream. For early risers looking for a heart-healthy way to curb their appetite, Friendly’s has introduced a Strawberry Yogurt and Fresh Fruit Parfait, combining Greek-style non-fat strawberry yogurt with seasonal fresh fruit and crunchy granola; and Steel Cut Oatmeal, which can be customized with a choice of two mix-ins, such as dried fruit, crunchy walnuts, brown sugar or toasted almonds. Egg lovers can delight in the Eggs Benedict, boasting poached eggs laid over Canadian bacon on a grilled English muffin and topped with a creamy Hollandaise sauce; Philly Steak & Cheese on an Everything Bagel, which features shaved rib eye steak grilled to perfection and supported by melted American cheese and two extra-large fried eggs; and Chorizo Scrambler, a plate of scrambled eggs loaded with savory, spicy Chorizo and both Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses. Finishing off the breakfast menu are sides such as Red Skin Breakfast Potatoes, mixed with peppers and onions; and Applewood-Smoked Bacon or Sausage.

Complimenting an already impressive selection of lunch & dinner offerings are an array of newcomers to Friendly’s Munchies, Salads, SuperMelt® Sandwiches, Entrees, Big Beef Burgers and Sandwiches. Stand-out appetizer additions include Buffalo Wings, spicing things up with crispy chicken wings tossed in Buffalo sauce and accompanied by celery sticks and Bleu Cheese dressing; and Cheeseburger Sliders, which features three delicious mini burgers topped with American cheese and served with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, pickle chips and Roasted Red Pepper Garlic sauce for dipping. For diners looking to enjoy a crisp, healthy salad, Friendly’s has introduced three new fresh varieties to its menu, including a Spinach Salad, chock full of baby spinach, sliced egg, mushrooms, applewood-smoked bacon, red onions, grape tomatoes, crunchy Ciabatta croutons and topped with either grilled chicken, turkey tips or salmon; Turkey Tip Avocado Salad, featuring grilled turkey tips, applewood-smoked bacon, sliced avocado, grape tomatoes and Bleu Cheese crumbles; and Burger Salad, allowing diners to enjoy their favorite Big Beef burger on top of mixed greens, crispy bacon, Fronions®, grape tomatoes and both cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Two new signature SuperMelt® Sandwiches make their debut on the menu, including a Crispy Chipotle Ranch SuperMelt®, featuring country-breaded all-white chicken tenders topped with Chipotle Ranch dressing, melted Cheddar cheese and applewood-smoked bacon on sourdough bread; and Philly Steak & Cheese SuperMelt®, pairing shaved rib eye mixed with melted American cheese, fresh-sliced green peppers and sautéed onions on grilled honey-dill rye bread.

Enhancing the Entree list are six additional dinners to meet the needs of those looking for a healthy meal as well as those looking to enjoy quintessential comfort food. Coming in at under 565 calories when ordered without dressing or sauce, is Salmon; seasoned and grilled to perfection on a bed of roasted potatoes, onions and peppers (a Hollandaise drizzle is available); and Turkey Tips; perfectly grilled and served with broccoli on a bed of fluffy rice pilaf (BBQ sauce or Teriyaki sauce is available). For diners in the mood for hearty home-style cooking, Friendly’s has added entrees such as Meatloaf, grilled and smothered in a ketchup glaze and served with creamy mashed potatoes and sweet corn; Chicken Parmesan, two tender, Italian-breaded chicken breasts smothered in marinara sauce, sprinkled with shaved cheese and served on a bed of garlic & herb vegetable pasta; Fish Tacos, warm tortillas filled with crispy tavern-battered cod fillets, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, cabbage, Chipotle sauce, fresh cilantro and tortilla strips and served with Spanish rice, sour cream, salsa and a lime wedge; and Mac & Cheese, penne pasta, cheese and prosciutto topped with a crisp crouton crumble and served with a side salad. In addition, Friendly’s has rolled out three new fresh, never frozen Big Beef burgers using 100% USDA Choice Beef, including the Bacon Cheeseburger, topped with melted American cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, fresh lettuce, tomato and mayo on a grilled Brioche roll; All American Burger, featuring crisp lettuce, tomato, red onion and a dash of mayo on a buttery Brioche roll; and Swiss Mushroom Burger, smothered with fresh sautéed mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a buttery grilled Brioche roll.

Rounding out the new lunch & dinner menu are four sandwich additions, including the Chicken Spinach Wrap, rolling grilled chicken, fresh baby spinach, applewood-smoked bacon, hard-boiled egg wedges, mushrooms, red onions, diced tomatoes and bacon dressing into a whole wheat wrap; Turkey Avocado Wrap, a mouthwatering combination of grilled turkey tips, lettuce, applewood-smoked bacon, diced avocados, diced tomatoes, Bleu Cheese crumbles and creamy Bleu Cheese dressing in a whole wheat wrap; Friendly’s Chili Dog, a 9-inch, beef frank topped with diced onions, chili, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses and tortilla strips; and Friendly’s All-American Dog, a 9-inch, beef hot dog served with mustard, relish and red onions.

With young diners in mind, Friendly’s has introduced a new kids menu, which allows children and parents to customize a two-course breakfast and three-course lunch & dinner to their liking. New kids breakfast drink and meal options, such as a Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie; Yogurt Parfait with strawberry Greek-style yogurt and the choice of M&Ms, fresh fruit or granola; and Oatmeal with OREOs®, which features steel-cut oatmeal sprinkled with crushed OREO® cookies, makes breakfast exciting for the little ones. For lunch & dinner, kids under the age of 12, can enjoy their choice of a drink, entree and dessert for a set price. Sharks in the Water, Friendly’s new kids’ drink offering, features blue raspberry Sprite® filled with gummy sharks and accompanied by a side of shark bait (red syrup). Imaginations will run wild! Additions to the kids’ entree list include a Turkey Sandwich with Goldfish® Bread, featuring roasted deli turkey, lettuce and tomato served on honey whole wheat Goldfish bread and served with apple slices; Turkey Tips, paired with broccoli, apple slices and honey mustard for dipping; and Build Your Own Mac & Cheese, which allows the child to act as a chef and add crispy bacon, tortilla strips and shredded cheese to this classic dish. To finish the meal, kids can enjoy a dessert, such as the new Worms in the Dirt, which features chocolate ice cream layered with gummy worms, OREO® crumbs, whipped topping and a cherry on top.

Knowing that no visit to Friendly’s would be complete without ice cream, Friendly’s has created several new desserts that act as the perfect finale to a meal. The Forbidden Fudge Brownie, which boasts three scoops of Forbidden Chocolate® ice cream with chunks of brownie topped with Friendly’s signature hot fudge, Swiss Chocolate and sprinkles; and Caramel Fudge Brownie Sundae, adorned with a warm brownie covered with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and one scoop of Forbidden Chocolate®, Friendly’s signature hot fudge, caramel and whipped topping, are sure to delight the chocolate-lover in everyone! Additionally, for a limited time, Friendly’s Scoopologists will be serving cups and cones of Toasted Marshmallow Peanut Butter Supreme ice cream, which features toasted marshmallow ice cream with chopped peanut butter cups and swirls of toffee ripple.
